What is biogas?

It is composed primarily of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2), along with trace amounts of other gases. How is Biogas Manufactured?

The process of manufacturing biogas involves anaerobic digestion, a natural process where microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of oxygen.

How biogas is made

Raw Material Collection: Organic waste materials such as household manure, food scraps, or agricultural residues are collected. At Moobio, we also use fish ensilage in combination with household manure for a more potent biogas outcome.

Anaerobic Digestion: The organic waste is placed in an oxygen-free environment, typically in a specially designed digester. Inside the digester, bacteria break down the organic matter, producing biogas as a by-product. This process typically takes place over several weeks, depending on the type of material and the system used.

Refining: In some cases, the raw biogas may be cleaned or upgraded to remove impurities, increasing its methane content. This purified biogas, often called biomethane, is more efficient and can be used in a wider range of applications.

Gas Collection: As the organic matter breaks down, biogas is released and collected from the top of the digester. The remaining material, called digestate, can be used as a nutrient-rich fertilizer, creating a sustainable cycle.
